Thanks for your detailed and thoughtful review! I received my package but haven't got around to looking inside -- I'm in a depression, perhaps from the weather. That's why I appreciate your taking the time to review the book, which encourages me to look into mine. Since your post is public, I'd like to share it with my friends on the Dinotopia Message Board if that's OK with you. Breathe deep, seek peace everyone!
Bob, I hope you're feeling better soon. Winter blues was a thing for me too, but lately, I don't know, somehow it went away. Hoping it does for you too. And yes please share away! In fact when people subscribe through your link, it adds free premium subscription months to your account, I believe. Anyway the book is fun. Enjoy it!
You are most welcome. And that's cool that you found a projected publication date for the gouache book. I'll order it directly from James and get a signed copy!
Thank you for the honest review of the book, it's great! I'm new(ish!) to on-location sketching and have been following James Gurney for a few years now. I don't own the 1982 edition unfortunately so I can't wait for the new copy to come the door. As I live in London and I couldn't order directly from the website, so I'll be eagerly waiting for the Amazon delivery person to arrive :-)
I’m glad you enjoyed reading the review and that it was useful to you. I’ve been to London once, and expressed my creativity at that time through photography—I wish I had done some sketching too!

Nice work on the review Zoungy. I'll be watching for my copy, but it takes longer to make it up to us here in the mountains. I know it is in the mail!
Now if only Gouache In the Wild would hurry up and arrive too!😅
*A true hoister" - that is exceedingly cool.
Exceedingly!!!
I'll tell you what, I didn't see it coming!
